Talk Up your Project
Everywhere I go and with anyone I meet, I’m weaving my book into our conversation, which leads to a longer conversation and the person wanting to know more. The more connections you make, the more books you’re going to sell—or at least that’s what I’m learning with pre-pre sales.
I have a spreadsheet at home with folks names on it, their address, who they are to trigger my memory and their mailing address. It’s getting longer and longer with the excitement I’m brewing up just by talking. All these people I tell might turn around and tell their friends and loved one about my book, about me. This is all for the sake of making connection personally with potential readers and most importantly…I LOVE PEOPLE. I am an ENFJ on the Myers-Briggs and a 279 on the Enneagram. Extroversion galore and an enthusiastic helper.
By sharing your project with others—whether it’s a book or other, can open up a wonderful valuable conversation. You get ideas and feedback plus you never know who you’re talking to. I’ve met fellow published authors. Peter Stenson at a Starbuck’s yesterday! He overheard a phone convo and approached me , He overheard a phone convo I had with a friend about my upcoming trip to Nashville for authors. He ran to his car and gave me an author’s copy of his upcoming book called WE, ADULTS due out next year. I’ve met others in the book industry and friends of Bill’s. That means that they are a 12-stepper and it’s referring to Bill Wilson, one of the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous. I met someone who worked for a film company for 35 years in the division of converting books to movies (one of my goals with this memoir). Curious about what I’m talking about? Click here to read about my book due out June 11, 2024!
So keep on talking. Chatter away.
